The 2025 edition of Empack Madrid, held on 15 and 16 October at the Ifema Feria de Madrid, marked a turning point for the high-value packaging sector insofar as, while in previous years the section dedicated to this channel had been a niche reserved for a few specialised operators, in this one it became one of the most observed, crowded and discussed areas of the entire event.
The increase in the number of exhibitors dedicated to the premium segment of packaging, by virtue of a larger exhibition area and a full calendar of presentations and demonstrations, confirmed the market’s growing interest in packaging capable of combining aesthetics, technological innovation and sustainability, a theme that is now a must with the presence of many packages made with special papers with low environmental impact, recyclable plastics, lightened glass and single-material solutions designed to improve recyclability without sacrificing refined finishes.
The visual layout and attention to detail also demonstrated how packaging is now an integral part of the consumer experience with magnetic cases, tactile textures, multi-sensory printing techniques, luminous elements, micro-engravings and combinations of materials being among the most photographed and shared solutions by visitors, with the presentation of limited collections and prototypes winking at perfumery, cosmetics, jewellery and wines as well as high-end spirits, sectors where packaging makes a decisive contribution to the perception of value.
Another highlight of the 2025 edition of Empack Madrid was the continued development of smart technologies with smart labels, digital traceability, dynamic QRs and RFID integrations, which were shown as tools capable of enriching the relationship with the consumer, protecting the product from counterfeiting and offering personalised information, a key aspect for luxury brands that are particularly attentive to exclusivity and supply chain transparency, and therefore represent very strategic solutions.
Alongside the stands, many visitors appreciated the educational content represented by workshops, panels and conferences dedicated to sustainability, creativity and the role of packaging as an extension of the brand. The discussion between designers, manufacturers and company managers highlighted how the demand of end customers is shifting towards a luxury that is no longer merely aesthetic, but responsible and technologically advanced.
All in all, Empack Madrid 2025 demonstrated how luxury packaging increasingly represents a rapidly expanding segment, with growing investment, research and market opportunities, with the widespread certainty that future editions of this trade fair, as non-specific as others for the high-value container segment, will see further growth in this area, driven by brands looking for packaging capable of narrating their value and by consumers increasingly sensitive to aesthetics, quality and sustainability.
